Dear Dominique,
Congratulations to the project. We are really enjoying reading the blog and seeing the beautiful illustrations and images contained in the books of the Old Library. It should be a beautiful feeling to open these books and discover the treasures displayed on its pages.
A big hug from Madrid,

Dear Erica,

How lucky the Courtauld library is to have a first edition of Hudibras with Hogarth's illustrations from 1726! Thanks for telling me about Frederick Antal's work on Hogarth. I'll take a look at his "Hogarth and his place in European art" - it sounds good.

You're so right - I think Hogarth would have loved satirising our dependence on modern technology!

Thank you for this posting - especially the contemporary allusions.

We have a 1726 edition of the Hogarth Hudibras, printed by T. W. for D. Browne, J. Walthoe, J. Knapton, R. Knaplock, J. and B. Sprint... It is in our bequest from the art historian Frederick Antal, who wrote extensively about Hogarth.

And I suspect Hogarth would have had some interesting illustrations of the latest technology!
